Media mogul and actress Kim Kardashian is returning as divorce lawyer Allura Grant for the second season of Ryan Murphy’s Hulu series All’s Fair on November 4, explaining that the cast and writers deliberately leaned into camp comedy after critics panned the show’s debut.

When the first season premiered last year, the series was envisioned as a serious legal drama featuring an ensemble of high-powered female attorneys played by Kardashian, Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, Naomi Watts, and Niecy Nash-Betts. Instead, harsh reviews targeted the script and Kardashian’s acting, with one major publication labeling the show the worst television drama ever made.
Rather than driving audiences away, the intense critical backlash sparked massive curiosity that propelled the show to become Hulu’s most-watched scripted series debut in three years. Recognizing that viewers were tuning in for the extravagant fashion, over-the-top storylines, and sharp one-liners, the creative team pivoted the tone for the second season.
Instead of fighting the camp label, the writers embraced the humor that audiences found so entertaining during the initial run. That self-aware shift allowed the cast to play up the comedic absurdity of high-stakes celebrity divorce cases in Los Angeles.
Turning Harsh Criticism Into Camp Comedy
Speaking ahead of the Season 2 premiere, the 46-year-old star admitted she initially feared her acting career might be over after reading the brutal first-season reviews. However, drawing on more than two decades in the public spotlight and building a $5 billion shapewear business empire, she chose to brush off the negativity and adapt.
Kardashian noted that working with pop-culture-savvy writers allowed the production to embrace the audience’s reaction and transform the show into a full-fledged comedy. Co-star and fellow executive producer Naomi Watts praised Kardashian’s growth on set this year, highlighting her impressive improvisation and comic timing alongside screen veterans Paulson and Close.
Watts explained that the new episodes double down on the high glamour, heightened reality, and banter that made the debut season a viral sensation. Kardashian also defended the show’s core theme of portraying ambitious professional women who embrace both sharp legal minds and high fashion, calling it a realistic reflection of many successful women she knows.
Real-Life Legal Ambitions Continue Quietly
Alongside playing an attorney on screen, Kardashian also addressed her six-year real-life legal apprenticeship, which allows aspiring lawyers in California to qualify without attending traditional law school. Shortly after the first season aired, she learned she had not passed her latest law examination, though she rejected rumors that she has abandoned her goal of earning her license.
Having previously faced public scrutiny after admitting she used artificial intelligence tools for legal study assistance, the mother of four plans to keep her future test preparation private until she officially passes the California bar examination. Promising she will be very vocal once she achieves a passing score and earns her law license, her return as divorce attorney Allura Grant alongside Watts, Paulson, and Close in All’s Fair Season 2 remains one of the week’s most talked-about Entertainment television releases.
