ADM Lifts 2026 Profit Guidance as Q3 Earnings Surge

· · 3 min read

ADM 2026 profit guidance moved higher on November 3 after Archer-Daniels-Midland reported a 64% surge in third-quarter segment operating profit to $1.4 billion. The global agricultural processor raised its full-year adjusted earnings outlook to a range of $5.50 to $5.80 per share, up from $5.15 to $5.60.

For the third quarter ended September 30, GAAP earnings reached $1.70 per share, compared with $0.22 per share in the prior-year period. Adjusted earnings per share climbed to $1.77, nearly doubling the $0.92 recorded in the third quarter of 2025.

Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer Juan Luciano stated that the company delivered operating profit growth across all business segments. Commodity analysts tracking global business supply chains noted that stronger processing margins reversed the earnings compression seen a year ago.

Biofuel Policy and Oilseed Crushing Boost Margins

A constructive North American biofuels environment served as the primary catalyst behind the Ag Services and Oilseeds segment’s rebound. Management noted that domestic demand for vegetable oil feedstocks strengthened following the Renewable Volume Obligation policy finalized in March.

Higher global crude oil prices during the late summer and autumn months further improved the economics of renewable diesel and biodiesel blending. Oilseed crushing facilities operated at high utilization rates to supply both food manufacturers and low-carbon fuel refiners.

Within the Carbohydrate Solutions division, North American ethanol margins benefited from steady domestic blending demand and targeted policy incentives. Sweeteners and starches also posted resilient volumes across beverage and packaged food accounts.

Global Trade Flows and Macroeconomic Monitoring

Export demand for North American corn, soybeans, and wheat remained active as South American weather patterns and Black Sea shipping logistics shaped global grain flows. Improved river barge conditions in the U.S. Midwest helped lower inland transportation costs compared with previous autumn harvests.

Nutrition segment profitability also improved as animal feed formulations and specialty human food ingredients gained traction with commercial customers. Cost-reduction initiatives implemented earlier in the year helped streamline plant maintenance and administrative overhead.

In its forward-looking commentary, the company emphasized that external variables across macroeconomic, geopolitical, trade, and regulatory landscapes continue to be closely monitored. Shifts in international tariff regimes or agricultural import quotas can rapidly alter export competitiveness.

By lifting its full-year adjusted earnings target to as high as $5.80 per share, the Chicago-based agribusiness signaled confidence in fourth-quarter harvest merchandising. Strong crush margins and disciplined capital deployment leave the processor well positioned entering 2027.

Refining Capacity and Sustainable Aviation Fuel Partnerships

Looking beyond the fourth-quarter harvest, management is expanding crushing and refining partnerships aimed at supplying low-carbon intensity vegetable oils for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel producers. Modernized processing plants across the U.S. Midwest and Canada have improved extraction efficiency while lowering per-ton energy consumption.

In the specialty ingredients division, rising consumer demand for plant-based proteins, probiotics, and natural flavor systems continues to support higher-margin product mix shifts. Disciplined working capital management and stronger North American processing spreads give the agricultural leader a resilient earnings foundation heading into the 2027 crop cycle.

Investments in digital grain origination platforms and automated port terminal logistics have also improved merchandising margins across key export corridors. Balanced global inventory management positions the company to navigate seasonal weather fluctuations effectively.
